US Open 2026 results, bracket: Coco Gauff joins Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe and Jessica Pegula in semifinals
Four Americans are still alive for a chance to claim one of the most coveted prizes in tennis
The US Open quarterfinals couldn't have gone any better for the American contingent as both the men's and women's semifinals will feature a pair of Americans trying to snap droughts in New York.
On the women's side, No. 4 seed Coco Gauff outlasted No. 5 seed Mirra Andreeva on Wednesday in a three-set battle (2-6, 7-6(7), 6-2) that saw the 2023 US Open champion shake off two match points in the second set to win a tiebreak and force a decider. Gauff, who made 40 errors in the first two sets, cleaned things up with just two in the final set to cruise into her first semifinal in Queens since her 2023 win. On Tuesday, it was No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula that shook off a slow start against fellow American and No. 26 seed Emma Navarro to win in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) and earn her place in the semis.
Pegula will now battle No. 1 seed and the two-time defending US Open champion Aryna Sabalenka in the semis on Thursday, while Gauff takes on No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina in the first women's semifinals to feature the top four seeds since 1975.
On the men's side, an American is guaranteed to make it into the final with a chance to snap the 23-year grand slam drought since Andy Roddick's US Open win in 2003 after a pair of thrilling five-setters on Tuesday. No. 11 seed Frances Tiafoe came back from 0-2 down against fellow American Alex Michelsen to win in dramatic fashion (5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6) and reach a third US Open semifinal.
Then deep into the night, No. 8 seed Ben Shelton won an instant classic against No. 2 seed and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz (7-6), 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6) in a match that ended at 3:33 a.m. ET. Shelton produced the best tennis of his career to take down the tournament favorite and should be brimming with confidence entering his semifinal with Tiafoe on Friday to see which American man will have a chance to end the drought.
