UConn cruises past Michigan: Silas Demary Jr. leads way as No. 4 Huskies earn national title game revenge

No. 4 UConn made a statement on Friday in Boston with an 85-77 win over No. 16 Michigan in a rematch of last season's national championship game. The difference in this game — especially compared to the matchup earlier this spring — was guard play. UConn's backcourt of Silas Demary Jr. and Braylon Mullins combined for 45 points. That was the difference, as Demary led the way with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Michigan star guard Trey McKenney missed all seven of his field goal attempts in the first half but caught fire after the intermission. McKenney finished with 22 points, all of which came in the second half. Michigan guard Elliot Cadeau, who was named Final Four Most Outstanding Player, struggled against UConn's defense. He shot 3 of 11 from the field and turned it over five times.

Another area where UConn controlled the game? Bench points. The Huskies had 18 bench points compared to eight for Michigan. Most of them came from five-star forward Colben Landrew, who finished with 14 points off the bench. UConn's next test will come against Ohio State next week, while Michigan has a matchup against Marquette on Wednesday.
